VMware sucks because VMware Customer Support sucks
I wanted to post following to VMware:
How do I download VMware Player with Lynx under Unix?
Note that I am paying VMware Workstation customer, and I need to install VMware Player on a machine which only has a text console and a basic XVnc installed.
Therefor I need to download VMware Player on it. All I have for this is Lynx, no FF, no Opera, no JavaScript, nothing. How Do I do this, as the EULA text cannot be submitted due to missing FORM buttons?
Ah .. if you think, "download it with another PC and upload it again": I have a 4 kBit/s upload link (this is 500 Byte/s) here from my Laptop due to GPRS mobile access (downlink is 10 to 12 KByte/s so you can live with that). Therefor uploading Player takes days (if not weeks). However the machine I want to deploy player on has a GBit-Link into Internet, but no graphical console .. (Note that nearly empty VMware images build with WS are very small if zipped, so no problem at that side.)
Is this case so quite uncommon nowadays that you no more tested with Lynx?
However this does not work. Why? The submit Button is disabled. Why? Dunno. They seem not to support browsers.
So I post it here: VMware Customer Support stinks!
They sell products, but do not want to help you. Why don't they just give an eMail address where you can send questions to? No, there are only shitty not functioning web pages which require browsers which rip security holes into your computer as wide as several universes. No, not my thing.
So if you are an IT pro who made the IT equippment safe against common intrusion (this is: You killed JavaScript, Flash, Active-X and so on) never mind using VMware in case you perhaps have a little trouble.
Even so do not even think to use VMware in a quite common but heterogneous environment, if you are not either an Enterprise or willing to let your computers be hacked. They simply do not support you. You, that is their customers.
Perhaps they shall learn a little bit more about the basics of CRM: "It's your duty to allow Customers to select the way they want to contact you". Sic! For me it's eMail (or a web form which supports Lynx). VMware failed miserably. They suck for not supporting blind people (they need Lynx to surf; No, I am not blind, but I use Lynx too).
